Cardinal Priest of S Maria in Via
Egano Righi-Lambertini was born on February 22, 1906, in Reno, in the
archdiocese of Bologna. He was ordained a priest on May 25, 1929. In 1946,
Righi-Lambertini entered the Vatican diplomatic service and worked in Rome,
Paris, Costa Rica, Venezuela and for the Apostolic Delegation in London. Pius
XII appointed him Apostolic Delegate to Korea on December 28, 1957. On July 9,
1960 John XXIII made him titular Archbishop of Doclea and Apostolic Nuncio in
Lebanon. Paul VI then appointed Righi-Lambertini Apostolic Nuncio to France on
April 23, 1969. John Paul II elevated him to the College of Cardinals during the
Consistory of June 30, 1979.
