Cardinal Priest of St. Liborius
Cardinal Turkson was born on 11 October 1948 in Wassaw Nsuta (Ghana). He studied in Ghana, New York and Rome. He earned a doctorate in Sacred Scripture in 1982. He speaks English, Fante, French, Italian, German and Hebrew, and can understand written Latin and Greek.
He was ordained on 20 July 1975 and returned to Rome several times for further studies.
He was appointed Archbishop of Cape Coast on 6 October 1992 and consecrated on 27 March 1993 by Archbishop Andow of Accra.
Pope John Paul II elevated him to the College of Cardinals on 21 October 2003.
